What is the Surface Pro 4?

The Surface Pro 4 is the fourth-generation Surface-series 2-in-1 detachable, designed, developed, marketed, and produced by Microsoft. Announced on October 6, 2015, at an event in New York City, it was released on October 26 in the United States and Canada. It succeeded the Surface Pro 3, while being succeeded by the Surface Pro (2017) in June 2017.

Design

The Surface Pro 4 is the fourth-generation Surface-series 2-in-1 detachable computer designed, developed, marketed, and produced by Microsoft. The Surface Pro 4 was announced during a media event in New York City on October 6, 2015,[4] and was released for sale on October 26 of that year.[5] It succeed the Surface Pro 3, released on June 20, 2014.

Display

The Surface Pro 4 display is extremely sharp, with a native resolution of 2736 x 1824 and a pixel density of 267ppi. That’s higher than both the iPad Pro (264ppi) and the Macbook 12-inch (226ppi). It’s also fully laminated, meaning there’s no air gap between the LCD and the glass, resulting in better contrast ratios.

Performance

The Intel Core i5-6300U is a dual-core processor of the Skylake architecture. Together with the separate meg graphics card and 8 GB of RAM, the SoC is fast enough for everyday office and multimedia tasks. The surface Pro 4 does not always run entirely smoothly in demanding games, but older and less demanding games run well on the device.

Battery life

The Surface Pro 4 features a slightly larger battery than its predecessor, and Microsoft claims that it offers up to 9 hours of video playback. Our own tests showed that the tablet could play a full HD video for 8 hours and 42 minutes before needing to be plugged in, which is an improvement over the 8 hours and 27 minutes we got out of the Surface Pro 3.

Ports and connectivity

The Surface Pro 4 features a Mini DisplayPort, a full-size USB 3.0 port, a microSD card reader, and a headphone jack. The power connector is also in this same side.

Keyboards

Just like any laptop, the Surface Pro 4 comes with a keyboard. But because it’s a 2-in-1 device, you have the option of using the Surface Pro 4 as a tablet without the keyboard. The Surface Pro 4’s keyboard is backlit, which means you can type in low light conditions. The backlighting has three settings: off, low, and high. You can adjust the backlighting by pressing the Fn key + Space bar.

Surface Pen

Attach your Surface Pen to the magnetic pen port on your Surface Pro 4 Type Cover or keyboard to charge it. Low battery? No problem. With just a single click, you get up to one year of battery life.*

*Battery life varies significantly with settings, usage, and other factors.

Surface Dial

The Surface Dial is a spinning peripheral designed for artists, creators, and general Windows 10 PC users. It can be placed on any flat surface next to your Surface device and supports haptic feedback, allowing you to feel a “bump” as you turn it. The Dial also recognizes when you press and hold it down.

The Surface Dial comes in two parts: the puck-like Dial itself, and a flat matte-black circular disc that serves as its base. The base is where you’ll find the magnet that lets you attach the Dial to your Surface device. The top of the Dial has a smooth, slightly domed anodized aluminum body with a concave plastic center. There are no buttons or switches on the Dial; all input is done through its spinning action and pressure-sensitive center.

The image surface pro 4 has two cameras, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera.

The left speaker is on the left side when you’re looking at the tablet in portrait orientation, and at the top when you’re looking at it in landscape orientation. The right speaker is on the right side when you’re looking at the tablet in portrait orientation, and at the bottom when you’re looking at it in landscape orientation.
