History of the Microsoft Store
Microsoft opened its first retail store on October 22, 2009, in Scottsdale, Arizona. The store sold Microsoft-branded hardware and software products. It was followed by stores in Mission Viejo, California and Bellevue, Washington. The Bellevue store was the first Microsoft Store to feature a “Solution Center” where customers could receive technical support and training for Microsoft products.
The company’s next store opened in Schaumburg, Illinois in August 2012. The Schaumburg location was the first Microsoft Store to offer hands-on demonstrations of Xbox 360 games on high-definition televisions.
As of September 2015, there are a total of 102 Microsoft Stores across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. The largest Microsoft Store is located in Oak Brook, Illinois.
The Grand Opening of the New York Store
microsoft is proud to announce the grand opening of its newest store in New York City. The store, located at 677 Fifth Avenue, will be open to the public starting on Thursday, October 26.
This new store is the latest addition to Microsoft’s growing retail footprint and continues the company’s commitment to delivering an unparalleled consumer experience. The two-level, 21,000 square-foot space features a state-of-the-art show floor where customers can experience Microsoft products and services in a hands-on environment. The store also offers a comprehensive selection of Microsoft hardware and software products, as well as third-party accessories and games.
“New York is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world, and we are thrilled to be opening our newest store here,” said David Porter, corporate vice president of Microsoft Retail Stores. “We can’t wait to welcome customers and show them all that Microsoft has to offer.”
The grand opening celebration will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Porter; Polly Wan, director of the New York Store; StormPowered CEO Kamal Hathi; and Christopher Chapman, chief operating officer of Fifth Avenue Association. Following the ceremony, the store will be open for business.

What to Expect at the New York Store
Microsoft’s New York store is located in the heart of midtown Manhattan, just a few blocks from Bryant Park and Times Square. The store spans two floors and covers more than 21,000 square feet.
The ground floor of the store is devoted to Microsoft’s Surface line of tablet computers and accessories. There are also demo stations where shoppers can try out Microsoft’s Xbox One video game console and its HoloLens augmented reality headset.
The second floor is devoted to Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system and its associated software. There are demo stations where shoppers can try out various features of Windows 10, and a team of experts will be on hand to answer questions about the operating system.

The New York store is one of Microsoft’s premier retail locations, and as such, it offers a wide range of services to its customers. In addition to selling Microsoft products, the store provides repairs and support for devices, offers training and workshops on a variety of topics related to Microsoft products, and has a team of experts on hand to answer customer questions. The store also hosts events from time to time, such as product launches and demonstrations by industry experts.
