Microsoft Surface Pen is a great accessory for Surface Pro and Surface Book. The digital pen is pressure sensitive and supports up to 1024 levels of pressure, which gives you precise control while drawing or writing. The eraser on the back is also pressure sensitive. You can use it to erase your mistakes just like a real pencil.
Click on devices
Click on Devices in the bottom right corner of your screen, then click on Pen & Windows Ink Settings.
In the Pen & Windows Ink Settings window, toggle off the Allow pen to wake up this device setting.
Click on pen and Windows ink
Open the pen and Windows ink settings. To do this, select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
Under Pen, select an option:
To turn off all light effects, including the glow around the pen when you tap it on your screen, clear the Turn on all light effects check box. This check box is available only if you have a compatible pen.
To turn off lighting just around the tip of your pen when you hover it over your screen, clear the Tip prelight check box . This check box is available only if you have a compatible pen.
To minimize disruptions when you’re not using your pen, clear the Pen Folio button opens Windows Ink Workspace check box .
Click Apply, and then click OK.

To toggle off allow Windows ink workspace when starting up, please follow these steps:
- Type “pen and ink” in the search box on the taskbar, and then select Pen & Windows Ink settings from the list of results.
- Under Pen shortcuts, select or clear the check box for Allow Windows Ink workspace when starting up.
